Remembering Bonnie Edelstein and Robert Milch

Compassion & Choices is eternally grateful for the devotion to the end-of-life choice movement of two New York advocates who recently passed: Bonnie Edelstein, founder and director of Death With Dignity Albany; and Robert Milch, founder of Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo, one of the nation’s first hospices.

  • Advocacy and Outreach Program Manager Tim Appleton was quoted in Delaware State News about the Ron Silverio/Heather Block Delaware End of Life Options Act saying, “We’re hopeful that lawmakers will hear the stories of our very own supporters who are desperate for this option.”
  • New York’s Daily Gazette reported on a potential merger between Schenectady’s Ellis Medicine and St. Peter’s Health Partners, and the lack of information about future implications. President and CEO Kim Callinan noted, “Patients nearing the end of life, seeking compassionate care — such as voluntarily stopping eating and drinking, palliative sedation, withdrawal of care — may no longer have access to these options.”
