“We thank Representative Jonathan Steinberg for his leadership on this bill and the members of the Public Health Committee for their historic bipartisan 24-9 vote in support of this legislation,” said Tim Appleton, Connecticut campaign director for Compassion & Choices. “We also thank the leadership for their efforts to bring this before both chambers for a vote.”  

“We believe we had the bipartisan support to pass the bill, and we are bitterly disappointed by this outcome,” Appleton said. “But our disappointment does not come close to that of terminally ill advocates who had the courage to share their stories, and those around the state who are desperate for this option now. They pay the cost of today’s legislative inaction. As we have seen every time this bill has failed to move forward, 'next year' will simply be too late for some.”
