Medicare beneficiaries, please take note!
As of January 1, 2016, Medicare will allow reimbursement for advance care planning (ACP) conversations and allow time for direct communication with healthcare providers regarding end-of-life care. Any Medicare beneficiary is entitled to this service. If you are a Medicare beneficiary please consider discussing advance directives, your state endorsed POLST document or out-of-hospital DNR with your healthcare provider. This new Medicare rule encourages physicians to make time for these sometimes lengthy discussions and facilitate patient choice toward well-informed decision-making and quality of care.
